These last few months have been action packed over here at DANNIJO. I went ‘on tour’ with my pal Leandra of ManRepeller fame wherein we popped by Miami and the City of Angels. All things considered it was a productive trip, we launched UMBILICAL, our girl band consisting of me and Leandra. Our hit single, Labiaplasty is top in every major chart that matters to anyone who matters, so ya know, things are good.
After ‘the tour’ Jodie and I went to Summit Series in Tahoe and got to hang out with some of the most interesting people on the planet. Our new favorite Summit friends (for SEO purposes of course) include Diplo, A-Trak, Jose Gonzales, Aloe Blacc, Jon Batiste and Marquese Scott. See we met cool people because cool attracts cool and DANNIJO is cool. No big deal. And, yes for those of you wondering Questlove and ELEW were there too and we still love them just as much.
So I made a late night video for you of Aloe Blacc + Jon Batiste getting down and dirty for a late-night impromptu performance AT A SPEAKEASY. I think it’s rad. Enjoy and stay tuned for more goods from our lives…
Danni + Jo share what inspires them about New York in Tory Burch’s latest Tastemakers series.
NBC New York took a deep dive into Danielle and Jodie’s purses. Here’s that they found:
Danielle’s purse:
1. I love these John Lennon frames and that they’re polarized.
2. I always have matches from the last restaurant I ate at and loved. I end up going to Fedora way too much. It’s such a cozy weeknight hangout!
3. Burt’s Bees lip balm.
4. Nars’ ‘Dragon Girl’ is the best lipstick hands down — the boys love this color. I stole it from my Mom! She’s so darn chic.
5. “TopShop ‘Beguiled’ and a Giorgio Armani berry stain. You can never have enough rouge in your purse.
6. I do the social media for DANNIJO, so I’m always on my iPhone posting on Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.
7. Arm party options
8. Chanel eyeliner
9. Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler is the ultimate femme fatale weapon.
10. Business cards
11. I hate heavy wallets so this mini stingray wallet is perfect for me. I keep my mom’s high school photo in it for good luck.
12. Jacinda ring.
Jodie’s purse:
1. I love my Dannijo iPhone case.
2. I always find change at the bottom of the purse.
3. This set of keys opens the doors to my life: my home and office.
4. Armani mascara and eyelash curler.
5. I always carry a few lipsticks with me. Curling my eyelashes and a touch of color on my lips helps me feel alive at the end of the day. This is my favorite Chanel red lipstick.
6. I always have a camera on me. I love taking pictures.
7. My favorite sunglasses, and I never leave home without them.
8. I always have jewelry floating around my bag. I like to have jewelry to add on at anytime.
9. I collect matches from restaurants so always have a few in my bag.
10. I keep all the essentials in my Dannijo stingray wallet, and a sweet note my boyfriend wrote me.
Can you guess who Jodie is rooting for this Sunday? Get the look.
Danni and Jo were shot for the Sebastian Professional & StyleCaster “Infinite Possibilities” cover story. You can see their campaign in the latest issue of Nylon Magazine. Read on for the full scoop.
What is your favorite Sebastian Professional product and why?
What did they use in my hair that made it shiny? I loved that! [Sebastian Professional Shine Define, SRP $16.95]
What are your favorite hair trends at the moment?
Effortlessly wavy long hair à la Gisele and sleek wavy hair to the side like Sebastian Professional styled mine in the shoot. It’s so old Hollywood glam and feminine.
Who are your favorite fashion designers or brands, and why?
I love Vena Cava. Those girls are rad and they design really wearable pieces with a bit of a runway edge. I’m also a huge fan of Opening Ceremony, Rag + Bone,Proenza Schouler, TOPSHOP and Isabel Marant. I love Marchesa andCarlos Miele for evening gowns. I don’t have any pieces yet, but I’m also a huge fan of Rodarte. For shoes, nothing beats Prada and Miu Miu–they’re comfortable and cool. And nothing finishes off an outfit quite like DANNIJO jewelry.
Tell us about the last good party you went to.
I went to Heidi Klum and Seal’s Halloween party at the Dream with my sister and friend Leandra Medine of ManRepeller. Our costumes were legit—I was Cleopatra, Jodie was ELVIS (!!) and Leandra was herself (?), and the whole party was an eye candy fest–people had the most intricate and creative costumes I’ve ever seen. And my favorite DJ, Questlove, kept the beats pumping.
Which celebrity hairstyles are you digging at the moment?
Liv Tyler’s long dark hair–she always looks amazing. Gwyneth Paltrow’s straight 90s cut and Taylor Swift’s hair party.
What was the last concert you went to?
A SPIN show with The Rapture, Crystal Castles and A-Trak.
If you could hop on an airplane this very second, where would you go and why?
Costa Rica! I’ve never been and I got a surf board this summer that I’m dying to use somewhere hot.
How would you describe your own personal style, from head to toe?
My style is pretty eclectic, but I’m a tomboy at heart. I love all things with a Western spirit–I went to school in Nashville and love cowboy boots and fringe vests/jackets. Overall, my aesthetic is a combination of bohemian and rock ‘n’ roll. I love anything that’s effortlessly cool–I’m always wearing soft cut-up vintage rocker tees, jeans, leather jackets and high top sneakers. Lately I’ve been really into dressing like a woman–deep sangria colored lipstick, lady-like blouses and lace-up heels. See how much of a mood dresser I am?
Tell us about the worst haircut or hairstyle you ever had.
Probably when I put bleach in parts of my hair in middle school, attempting to create effortless highlights. It didn’t work out too well.
What is your ultimate party jam, meaning the one song you have to dance to when you hear it come on?
Whitney Houston “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, or Michael Jackson “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”.
What is your favorite Sebastian Professional product and why?
Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity. I like light hairsprays that hold your hair but are easy to work with and don’t make your hair stiff.
What are your favorite hair trends at the moment?
The beachy wave is still my favorite. I also love big blowouts that have a lot of body and movement.
What kind of music are you currently listening to?
The Rapture, Jay-Z, Kayne West, Rihanna, Florence + the Machine,Michael Jackson and Fleetwood Mac.
Tell us about the last good party you went to.
Heidi Klum & Seal‘s Halloween party. Some of the best costumes I have ever seen.
Which celebrity hairstyles are you digging at the moment?
I always love Jennifer Aniston‘s hair. I also love Julianne Moore‘s reddish brown hair color. Gisele Bündchen and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also have amazing hair.
What are your go-to sources for fashion and beauty inspiration?
Stylecaster, Style.com, The Man Repeller, The Coveteur, Into The Gloss, The Cut, Net-A-Porter and Shopbop.
What was the last concert you went to?
Jay-Z and Kayne West. It was epic! Best concert to date.
How would you describe your own personal style, from head to toe?
I would describe my style as classic bohemian. I love tailored pieces as staples in my closet. I have a huge collection of blazers which is one of my favorite pieces to buy. I also have a huge vintage collection. I am always finding amazing vintage pieces and remaking them to fit my body. I get a lot of my clothes tailored. Fit is very important to me. I am a huge accessories person. I never leave the house withoutDANNIJO. I also love buying shoes and handbags. I love mixing vintage with more modern pieces. I am definitely a mood dresser and like to mix up my style.
Describe your ultimate party outfit.
I love a great fitting dress with lots of jewelry and great heels.
What is your ultimate party jam, meaning the one song you have to dance to when you hear it come on?
Prince’s “Kiss”.
(via Stylecaster)
Congrats to Danielle and Jodie for being named the ‘Most Wanted Jewelry Designer’ of 2011 by Refinery29.
The ladies at The Coveteur flipped the coin for a double dose of DANNIJO. This time, they featured Jodie’s closet + NYC apt, full of vintage finds and DANNIJO jewelry.
I bought the blue vintage Yves Saint Laurent clutch at the Manhattan vintage show in NY. I always find amazing pieces there and look forward to it every year. It is one of my favorite clutches and blue is my favorite color. I love wearing the Prada bag with printed dresses and tops. I loved this when I first saw it when we were doing a PA at Holt Renfrew in Toronto. I was still thinking about it when we got back to NY, so I ordered it from Neiman Marcus.
I have too much jewelry and not enough space, so I keep a lot of it out and decorate my apartment with it. It is great to have it out so I can always add some jewelry on my way out the door. I love stacking on the DANNIJO Zula trade bead necklaces. I took these pictures when I studied in Italy in college.
I love vintage furniture probably too much. I buy furniture like I buy accessories. It is always an emotional purchase and I worry about where it will go after the fact. I purchased this old filing cabinet on one of my favorite websites One Kings Lane. I love color in my accessories. The DANNIJO Cleo necklace (necklace on the left) is one of my favorite pieces. The DANNIJO Hixson neon collar is from our SS12 collection. It has a very surf culture feel to it and makes me miss summer (my favorite season). I love wearing it under a buttoned up collared shirt or over a vintage tee.
I wish I wore these Givenchy boots a lot more. I wore them to the Vena Cava runway show last season and could not feel my feet after an hour of wearing them. All of the jewelry is DANNIJO of course. The oxidized brass ones are from our fall collection and the oxidized silver ones are some of our classics. I always wear one big cuff, or stack a few of the smaller ones for an arm party! The oxidized brass bow cuff is from our MR.DANNIJO collection-collaboration with Manrepeller. We had so much fun designing this collection and are working on our new collection that will be released in Feb. Stay tuned!
These are some of my all time favorite DANNIJO pieces – “game changers”. The silver mixed chain one on the right goes with everything and great cuffs can be worn with a tee and jeans or an evening gown. Danielle and I started DANNIJO 4 years ago. We started making jewelry as kids on our father’s medical tools. It is amazing to work with my sister! We have different styles (I tend to be a bit more classic and Danielle more bohemian) and our collection is a mixture of us, which makes DANNIJO our baby, right?
NBC New York asked Danni + Jo to show you how to take those old pieces in your closet and make them cool again with accessories. It’s as easy as 1-2-3-4. Here’s how…

(via Societe Perrier) Sister act Danielle and Jodie Snyder aren’t just the young talented brains behind the hot jewelry label DANNIJO. They’re also social media personalities — check out their addicting tweets — and regulars on the New York fashion and art scene. They hang with prolific blogger Man Repeller (a.k.a. Leandra Medine) and boombox lovin’ photo-journalist Lyle Owerko (who provided us with his five fave things back in September).
But back to the Snyder sisters’ super buzzy jewelry label that perfectly meshes Danielle’s boho-rocker aesthetic with Jodie’s classic sophisticated vibe. The line launched in 2008 and has since collaborated with equally as modern apparel brand Vena Cava, plus the aforementioned Man Repeller on the irreverent MR. DANNIJO line. In between Danielle and Jodie’s very busy schedules the girls took the time to share each of their five favorite things with us, making this more of a ten favorite things compilation.
DANIELLE (above left)
1. Storyteller: Questlove. We met at Summit series and have been great friends since. He tells a story like no other. He calls it “the last five minutes of the story.” It’s like the most important, juiciest details. He knows more than anyone I know about music and interesting people, and I could listen to his stories to no end.
2. Restaurant: The Crow’s Nest in Montauk. The food, the ambience, the vibe. I love it all. And that chili melon they bring out when you first get seated is just the best. Sean MacPherson is a genius.
3. Green movie: Great Expectations. How can you not love Gwyneth Paltrow after this movie? The whole movie is green and so romantic, “Don’t you understand everything I’ve done, I’ve done for you” — I love that line. “I did it…I sold them all… All of my paintings. I am a wild success. You don’t have to be embarrassed of me anymore. I’m rich. Are we happy now?” I think I’ll name my first boy Finn if I ever have one.
4. Blogger-journalist-personality: Her name is Leandra Medine and we like to say that we were separated at birth BY A BIRTH CANAL. She’s my fave. Her blog is just so-so but she’s hilarious live so try to meet her (hi Medinium!)
5. Fashion Movement: Sneakers!!! I always loved wearing sneakers growing up with my uniform skirts (tomboy that I am), so it’s nice that people can appreciate their beauty when paired with skirts and dresses — 14 years later. I wear my Ash buckle leather hi-tops pretty much nonstop. I need to get some neon kicks though to take me next level.
JODIE (above right)
1. Décor: Fresh flowers. We always had fresh flowers in the house when we grew up, and they always put me in a good mood.
2. Vacations: The beach. I will always be a Florida girl at heart and am always most relaxed when I am on the beach or near water. My favorite places to travel are always island destinations.
3. Shopping: A toss between online and vintage. I have an addiction to online shopping. I am on Shopbop and Net-a-Porter way too often. How did we function before online shopping? I also love spending hours in vintage/antique stores. You never know what you are going to find but always come out with something amazing.
4. Bar: Bar Hemingway in Paris. My favorite place to get a drink. There are so many creative minds there, and the ambience is perfect. So cozy and always fun during Paris Fashion Week.
5. Restaurant: La Giostra in Florence, Italy. I studied in Florence in college, and this is my favorite restaurant. The food is amazing and so is the owner Soldano. He wears bangles up both his arms from his wrist to elbow and never takes them off.
(But of course my all time favorite is DANNIJO. I never leave home without it. As my mom says, “I feel naked when I am not wearing DANNIJO.”)
Was Russel Simmons dressed as his brother Run-D.M.C and spotted talking to model/actor types the whole time? Check. Did the Manrepeller show up to DANNIJO an hour before the party costume-less, wearing only a skirt that resembled a full blown yeast infection? Check. Did Jodie not want to go until we scored sick Marchesa dresses, one of which would make for an epic Elvis costume? Check. Did we get to walk the red carpet as Cleopatra, Elvis and Manrepeller-with-a-yeast-infection-and-mangled-headdress? Triple Check.

Heidi and Seal‘s party was as full-on as it looks in all the online coverage. Guests included a mix of celebs, models, musicians, designers and actors including Fergie, Doutzen Kroes and Michelle Tratchtenberg. Heidi and Seal of course went all out two-nights in a row, first dressed as a bloody cadaver and wheeled out for the red carpet on a hospital bed for her Vegas party, and next dressed as a monkey for New York’s bash at the Dream hotel. The power couple didn’t arrive til 12:45am and missed the best part of the party, Questlove‘s DJ Set. I guess they got to see him the night before in Vegas though. For those of you who missed it, below is a round-up of my favorite costumes and moments from the night. Bonus points for DANNIJO infused get-ups. Scroll to THE END or risk missing the best part of this post, a LIVE ELVIS PERFORMANCE amidst chaos… Happy belated H-a-l-l-o-w-e-e-n guys!
And now for the BEST PART of this post. Watch in its entirety:
Jodie and I attended the WGSN Awards last Thursday night at Gotham Hall. We were nominated for Breakthrough Designer and were honored to be amongst a slew of talented designers including our dear friends Timo Weiland + Alan Eckstein. We were fortunate to be the guests of Swarovski Elements, the headlining sponsor for the night. The main point of this post though (other than letting you know we were nominees) is that Jodie made sure to bling it out for our audience. She was my portable disco ball for the night, which was pretty lucky for me, ’cause most people’s dates aren’t that sparkling if you know what I mean. Visual below:
Jodie my-disco-ball sister donning Cecile Earrings, Frances/Stanton Cuffs & the Taylor
One of the most challenging fashion attires for me has always been the Blacktie event. It’s like Wimbeldon for Andre Agassi. Read it again so you can laugh this time: It’s like Wimbeldon for Andre Agassi. It always seems to creep up on me and last minute, I’m desperate to find something– which of course then needs statement jewelry to take it next level. Below I’ve created an inspiration cheat-sheet for you to reference for your next big night. What’s trending, you ask? It’s all about #crystaloverload #winterblues #boldaccessories and #takeithomeshoes (ie my Loeffler Randall Natane pick below)
1. Metallics + Sparkle with Crystal Overload a la Jodie
Dresses by Marchesa. 1. Rex earrings 2. Cecile earrings 3. Sparo Cuff 4. Taylor bracelet
2. Winter Blues a la me
With Jo at WGSN Awards. I’m in one of my all time favorite designs, the Zsa Zsa
Dresses: (L) Marchesa (R) Carlos Miele. 1. Irina Cuff 2. Nela necklace 3. Gabrielle earrings 4. Loeffler Randall Pumps
3. Bold Accessories
Dresses by Carlos Miele. 1. Frances Cuff 2. Syrah necklace 3. Oksana earrings 4. Zsa Zsa necklace

To be clear, BTS stands for behind the ‘stache.
So, now you’ve seen it, all four minutes. And Jodie never takes the ‘stache off. You may be wondering why I’ve waited until two months after the launch to share it but the reasons are simple: 1. Danielle edits and that means….nothing, and 2. Here’s the big one: the collection is in it’s final round of stock! That’s it! Buy now or forever hold your piece! That’s a play on words! Do you get it! Have a ‘stache! And a collar! Wear a watch that doesn’t tell time! …Or don’t. I just thought right now would be an opportune moment to let you know that the aforementioned (time) it is a’running out.
Ultimately though, the decision is yours, I can’t pressure you into buying something(s), especially if they don’t speak to your aesthetic. If they don’t in fact speak to your aesthetic though, you should really ask yourself why. And then reconsider revisiting this here web page ever again. I hate you! Just kidding, I love you. Well, this paragraph is chocful of irregular sentiments, I reckon it may be in part due to Aunt Flow’s short journey over, scheduled to pop in any day now.
Before you kick yourself into early menopause though, (see what I did there?) I should let you know, if you did in fact miss your call to purchase a piece of us, collection number two may or may not roll out one day. Soon. Or not soon. We’re at the mercy of a metalsmith named Jon. Kidding, his names not Jon, but it should be, he looks like a Jon.
Okay now, bye and buy!
Every year Jodie and I tell a new story and create a new medium to convey our vision. This year we had the honor of collaborating with photographer and filmmaker, Lyle Owerko. Known for his photo-journalism and finely crafted portraiture work, his imagery has graced everything from TIME magazines famous 9/11 cover to hanging in museums and major art collections around the world. Recently named a Hasselblad Master (and winner of numerous Journalism and Fine Art awards), his current projects aim to better understand the human condition. Which is why we fell in love with him.
I first discovered his work when I stumbled across his Boombox Project at Christiane Celle‘s Clic Gallery. Check it out, you’ll want to buy everything. I almost did.
On a stormy April Sunday, I surfed the net for more of his work, fell in love with his Africa series, and realized he was a neighbor in TriBeCa. After exchanging a few emails, Jodie and I met Lyle for breakfast and the rest is history.

The DANNIJO x Lyle Owerko Photography Exhibition at New York’s finest Soho House, aptly titled Portraits, celebrates contemporary New York culture, capturing friends and pioneers in a range of industries in docu-style photos. Music masters Caroline Polachek of Chairlift and ELEW‘s performances really brought the project to life, and made for a killer night. Not to mention the afterparty with DJ Questlove.
We have such an incredible network of talented New York based friends that our subjects ended up being more colorful than a skittles rainbow. Scroll down to peep some of our favorites from the exhibition. Stay tuned, more to come next week including Rachelle Hruska MacPherson, John Forte, Naveen Selvaduri, Kristian Laliberte and Christian Cota. I’ll stop while I’m ahead or there won’t be any surprises left!
All Photographs by Lyle Owerko. All jewelry by, you guessed it, DANNIJO.
