“H e ‘ s d e f i n i t e l y i n a b a n d. His legs are a lot skinnier than mine.” – The Man Repeller at SXSW
I went to SXSW this past weekend to speak on a Style X Panel with none other than #thetour mate, Leandra Medine of Man Repeller and #Umbilical fame.
As per usual, we had the time. Though we were in the middle of no where at the DoubleTree off an interstate (<–this is not a plug by the way as I wouldn’t recommend it), Brooklyn Decker showed up in her DANNIJO Stella bib and saved the day. It was like our version of the scene in Just Go With It when she comes out of the ocean in her yellow bikini. She was our lifesaver. Austin’s Angel. Thanks, Brooklyn.
We met up with my music friend Jesse Israel who is cool not only because his last name is a country, but also because he has a label called Cantora with a sweet logo. He discovered MGMT, not really a big deal. Anyway, our first show of the weekend was Wu Tang’s GZA. He’s not shy on stage or in person in case you were wondering.
I know what you’re thinking. Jesse’s eye on the right does look weird. Here’s a better one of him and of me for that matter.
After having an interesting conversation with GZA, we went to watch Theophilus London DJ or something. But as fate would have it, we saw him LIVE and in action the next day at Stubbs BBQ. After I shot the below photo, I seriously considered a career change as a music photographer. Ultimately I decided against it and told Theophilus he should start wearing DANNIJO. He’s down so stay tuned.
We hadn’t eaten in 2 hours and we danced like hyenas, so naturally, we were hungry. We met up with the blonde version of ourselves. Meet DJ Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe. These girls are #Fun.
After the 12 minute bike tour, we were exhausted, so we took a pit stop at a bus stop and took pictures of ourselves for fun. For @kevin, really, but whatever.
Then we went and laid in a grassy knoll like hippies since we smelled like hippies. We waited and waited and waited. Bought a $3 Diet Coke to share and watched the beginning of BigEasy Express about Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford & Sons.
I don’t know how people do SXSW for 5-7 days because I was shot after 1.5 but maybe that’s because I’m a grandmother. Lucky for me, my fun didn’t stop when I got on the plane home because rapper Despot was seated in 2B and we chatted it up til wheels down. Needless to say, he corrupted me. Am I the only one or did you not know about gang Lo Life either? He promised me one of his old RL horse jackets that’s now too small on him. You’re my witness.
His rose gold ring and song Look Alive rock. Bye for now…
When it comes to Rock’n'Roll inspiration, you just can’t beat Guns N’ Roses. I’ve always been a leather whore, so their mix of leather with torn denim vests, bandanas, goth top hats, fringes (!!!), long straight hair, heavy metal #armparties, sunglasses at night and rocker tees really gets me off. Jodie and I saw them rock out last week with the #babysittersclub (which consists of @rachellehruska, @simko, @carsongriffith, @sarahkunst, @jodie_snyder, @danielleasnyder @mfawbush <–follow us for a good time). They may be older but they sound just as good, and they’re still Rockstars. We took some bootleg video for your enjoyment in case you missed it. I’m not including the video in this post because, well you’ll get it later. I did, however, include an old school music video of the crew which you should watch.
Simko just couldn’t get enough GN’R
How legendary is this music video?

These last few months have been action packed over here at DANNIJO. I went ‘on tour’ with my pal Leandra of ManRepeller fame wherein we popped by Miami and the City of Angels. All things considered it was a productive trip, we launched UMBILICAL, our girl band consisting of me and Leandra. Our hit single, Labiaplasty is top in every major chart that matters to anyone who matters, so ya know, things are good.
After ‘the tour’ Jodie and I went to Summit Series in Tahoe and got to hang out with some of the most interesting people on the planet. Our new favorite Summit friends (for SEO purposes of course) include Diplo, A-Trak, Jose Gonzales, Aloe Blacc, Jon Batiste and Marquese Scott. See we met cool people because cool attracts cool and DANNIJO is cool. No big deal. And, yes for those of you wondering Questlove and ELEW were there too and we still love them just as much.
So I made a late night video for you of Aloe Blacc + Jon Batiste getting down and dirty for a late-night impromptu performance AT A SPEAKEASY. I think it’s rad. Enjoy and stay tuned for more goods from our lives…
You know I’m a huge music fan, so I always appreciate a little history + background to the beats. Check out this sick video featuring our favorite photojournalist/creative anthropologist Lyle Owerko and his journey through the Boombox Project. No doubt you’ll get inspired. You may even buy a boombox or the coffee table book. I did. – Danielle
I had the pleasure of seeing Raphael Saadiq last Monday with my prima-face, Michelle. My buddy, Anthony Demby, of ihearditon – and other bananas cool ventures – said it’d be a great show and that I should come. So I came. And. It. Was. Unreal.
Definitely one of the best shows I’ve seen. I know that’s an aggressive superlative, but I think it had something to do with the intimate setting – it was in Soho House‘s lounge area – the fact that Raphael and his crew have such awesome stage presence, AND I was just so into every song they played. I took a little video for you (below). And in case you haven’t heard of him, he used to tour with Prince as a kid, so he has some mass-market cred. Enjoy x Danielle

SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE! I made you a playlist of what I’m listening to RIGHT NOW en mi oficina. Download these gems if you haven’t already. By now you’ve probably heard of ELEW, aka Eric Lewis the rock jazz genius, in one of my former posts. We custom-made vambraces for the rockstar pianist just in time for his latest Straight To You Tour with Josh Groban.
See below for some shots of ELEW donning his new DANNIJO vambraces and scroll down for some alien inspiration from this project’s storyboard. If you haven’t already seen him perform, be sure to check him out here and here.

A meeting of the minds (with Elew at DANNIJO showroom)
