DJ: When did you first realize you wanted to be a designer?
JCDC: Initially I wanted to be an artist. My mom had a factory, so I decided to pursue fashion. As a designer, I’ve always been drawn to more conceptual art like installations – that’s why I’ve done unique work at the intersection of art and fashion.

DJ: Do you have a muse?
JCDC: I have had so many muses in my life. Generally women who love my clothes have a very particular beauty. They have a strong character, and they have a real personality. I have been dressing women from Farrah Fawcett to Lady Gaga and lots of women like Lauren Bacall. I really love to dress particular women — women with character.

Our Spring Summer 2013 collection was centered around a Peter Beard work we stumbled upon. His use of indigo, his celebration of the natural women and subtle integration of tribalistic influences really served as a driving force for what came to be, which is (wait for it) PEACEFUL WARRIORS + TRIPPY HIPPIES
As always, the collection is meant to be layered, stacked and piled on. At the request of many, we introduced the Bib Lite (hi @rachelstrugatz!) and for the first time are condoning statement earrings with statement collar necklace AT. THE. SAME. TIME. because why the hell not? IT’S 2013 PEOPLE
We also, introduced our pink friends, Peter Gabriel and Gloria Silvia (@ManRepeller and my pet flamingos we found at Coachella 2012). They’re still going strong, thanks for asking
