It was 18 degrees and winds coming at 21mphr last night. I was trying to make my way towards the highway. I didn’t have my jacket on, so I quickly put down my purse and iPhone on the road to bundle up. As I was zipping up, I spotted a cab come around the corner.
I was lucky enough to get a ticket to last night’s SNL rehearsal with guest Rihanna and host Blake Lively. It was way better to see the show in person. The first half—after the weird opening muppet skit—was hilarious. The second half was on the weaker side–so hopefully most of those skits got cut. The much anticipated Tiger Woods skit was pretty ridiculous and I couldn’t stop laughing, but the White House party crashing skit was probably one of my favorites. I’m slightly obsessed with Kristen Wiig though, so pretty much anything she does is funny:
Geemania (pronounced with a hard “G”): 1. to be wholeheartedly obsessed with the iconic “bowtied”E. Gordon Gee so much as to be “unable to hold oneself back” from interrupting his dinner or any personal engagement wherein he is present. 2. A common symptom experienced by any of his former students or parents of his students from the following universities: Vanderbilt, Ohio State, West Virginia, Colorado or Brown.

Ever wondered what it’s like to party with a rockstar? Well I experienced it first-hand this past weekend on my first-ever trip to Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio—not a place I would have initially associated with Rockstardom having lived in Nashville, Tennessee and New York City.
I met Kaleem at Natalie Portman & Interview Magazine’s Tribeca Film Fest party last year for the launch of Natalie and Christine Aylward’s new site makingof.com. Kaleem and I hit it off immediately, and have managed to keep in touch despite his busy travel schedule. He first wrote about his love affair with DANNIJO in his piece for the Independent, where he noted,
“The fashion stakes were high, as always, with the accessories of choice coming from the DANNIJO label, owned by Snyder sisters Danielle, 24 and Jodie, 27. Their jewellery has been taking the town by storm since it launched last year with Beyoncé snapped in one of their necklaces while swaying through Soho last week.”
Kaleem Aftab (is a badass and) wrote the authorised biography of acclaimed New York director Spike Lee that was published by Faber and Faber in the UK and Norton in the US. He works as a freelance journalist for The Independent, Interview, The National, and theList. He has also produced a number of short films (Mash Up, Much Ado About a Minor Ting) and the forthcoming feature film This is What It Is. Kaleem shares with DANNIJO why men should wear earrings.
