The pandemic has made the past year challenging for everyone, but independent businesses have had it particularly hard. That’s why we want to use International Women’s Day as an opportunity to champion fellow women-owned fashion, beauty and wellness brands.
The theme for 2021 is #choosetochallenge, a message that is all about exploring how to help forge a gender equal world. It calls on us to celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality - today, and every day. It’s an approach to life that is at the heart of the #Dannijogirls sisterhood.
With that in mind, here are seven companies we love and support on a regular basis. Do you know a great women-owned brand we should include here? Tell us about it in the comments below!
The revival of 80s swimwear brand Hunza was spearheaded by Brit designer Georgiana Huddart, who joined forces with original founder Peter Meadows in 2015. It is best known for its signature crinkle stretch fabric, which is supremely flattering on all body shapes. Shop Dannijo’s edit of Hunza G bikinis and one-pieces here.
Designer Emily Adams Bode’s collections are made from vintage, recycled, and natural fabrics. If it’s not a one-off, it’s a very limited run, making every piece heirloom-worthy, and setting new standards in sustainability. Strictly speaking, it’s menswear, but her fans include all genders. Shop the brand here.
If you ever wanted to know where jewelry designers buy jewelry, Los Angeles-based Circa 1700 is your answer. Susan Cohen’s one-of-a-kind antique treasures and collection of inspired designs are unmistakable. Follow her feed on Instagram to find out where you can shop her pieces next.
Another game-changer from our own industry, Samantha Knight wants you to forget everything you know about fine jewelry. Her covetable heirloom pieces are designed to be worn every day, and take an aesthetic lead from history, music and popular culture. Shop the collection here.
Founded by supermodel and entrepreneur Miranda Kerr, award-winning clean beauty brand Kora Organics is committed to healthy skin. Ingredients are certified organic and natural and the Noni Glow face oil has almost legendary status. Browse the products here.
Created by our very own Danielle, Boxerina is a feelgood ballet-meets-boxing-inspired workout. The original inspiration came from the concept for the Dannijo spring/summer 2014 fashion show, and the emphasis is on low-impact, toning movements utilizing the weight of the body. Classes are taught by Danni and her favorite ballerinas, yogis, pilates instructors and boxing coaches. Explore the method here.
Danni and Jodie have long been obsessed with vintage fashion. It’s the inspiration behind their ready-to-wear and the perfect canvas for Dannijo jewels. And Eveliina is one of their favorite places to find ethereal 1930s slips and dresses. This is definitely a site to bookmark.
